Very healthy! Fish Dumplings in Tomato Sauce


Friday's dinner was colored by red and green (avocado salad). I enjoyed cooking as always and having someone like a family to share the food is such a pleasure. We went to a grocery store for a huge shopping (to last next 2 weeks) after my school and then I started to cook this. It required some patience to fight with sticky fish dough but it really is rewarding and well worth to try it. I didn't come up with making fish dumplings and have them in tomato sauce by myself simply because it seemd to take long till finish and tiresome to make it after a long day...but that's not true. (if you have a food processor)
These boiled fish dumplings are fluffy and mild, and spread & melt out in your mouth with tomato sauce.. Mmm.. It'd make your family smile and ask you for more helpings :)

Fish Dumplings
Cod (or similar fish) fillets (骨抜きの白身魚) 500g
All-purpose flour (小麦粉) 60g
Sour Cream (サワークリーム) 1 cup / 250ml
Egg (卵) 1
Salt (塩) ½ tsp
Nutmeg (ナツメグ ひとつまみ) 1 pinch
Dill (ジル 2つまみ) 2 pinches, chopped

Tomato Sauce
Onion (Sサイズ玉ねぎ) 1 small finely chopped みじん切り
Garlic (ニンニク 1欠片) 1 clove minced みじん切り
Canned whole tomatoes (ホールトマト 1缶) 1 can (28 oz / 800g)
dried thyme (タイム 1つまみ) 1 pinch
dried rosemary (ローズマリー 1つまみ) 1 pinch
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

1 Combine all ingredients except the dill in a large food processor. Blend until smooth.
フードプロセッサーにジル以外の材料を入れて滑らかになるまでしっかり混ぜる。


2 In a large pot bring at least 2 quarts / liters of salted water to a very light simmer (I should've used bigger pot). Scoop the fish dough/paste (mine was really paste..or what)  with 2 large tablespoons and form it into oval shape.
Keep it oval, keep it oval, (dropping!) and then gently put it into the boiling water. You made it.

大きめの鍋に塩水を沸騰させて(もっと大きい鍋使えばよかった)、テーブルスプーン2つ使いながら魚のペーストをすくう。楕円形に形を整えながら形をキープしたまま静かにお湯の中に落とす。




4 Using a slotted spoon, carefully place the dumplings in the hot water. Simmer for about 10 minutes, then remove from water, quickly rinse under cold water, drain, then place in a serving bowl and keep warm. 


10分程度煮たら穴の開いたスプーンでそっとすくって冷たい水が入ったボウルの中に移し、その団子(今は団子)がそこに沈んだら水を捨ててボウルの中にキープ。これで終わり。


1 In a heavy pan, heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil (original method was butter but I think olive oil is healthier for the body) and add the chopped onion. Cook over low heat for about 10 minutes until soft and translucent. Add garlic, cook for a few more minutes. 

フライパンに小さじ一杯のオリーブオイル(オリジナルのレシピではバターだったけどオリーブオイルの方が体にいいでしょ?)を垂らし、刻んだ玉ねぎを弱火で10分炒める。そのあとにニンニクを足してもう数分。。

2 Add whole tomatoes (800~850g). Bring to a boil and simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes.  
ホールトマトを加えてヘラでトマトを潰し、よく混ぜる。適度に塩・こしょうで味調整をして蓋無しで15~20分煮込む。




Pour tomato sauce over the dumplings. 
Garnish with fresh dill and shaved Parmesan cheese. 



魚の団子の上にトマトソースをかけ、その上にジルをパラパラっと乗せて完成。見た目もきれいだし簡単でしょ?

I cut out some ingredients which I didn't have and arranged/skipped some steps but again, it was so so so delicious (I always make it easier to remember what I cook).
