The next day on 17th, we drove to Cochem.
We could fully enjoy this Easter week as Jan fortunately got to have vacation off.
Cochem is one of beautiful sightseeing areas in Germany where Imperial castle (Reichsburg) stately located on the top of the hill and the city lies on the side of the Moselle river.
This city is in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and known for the Moselle wine.
There are still a large number of historical buildings such as Town Hall, St. Martin's Church in the Old Town, and Imperial castle of the late Gothic style.
I thought that Cochem is a pretty smaller then Rothenburg the day before, where you can walk through and enjoy the highlights in a day.
All streets are stone pavements and there are many souvenir shops, Moselle wine stores, bakeries, cafés, and restaurants on the both side of them.
翌日17日は再び車を走らせてコヘム(Cochem: 日本語ではコッヘムの様ですが、ドイツ人のじょんはコヘム(コヘンにも聞こえる)と発音しています。)へ来ました。
幸運にもじょんがこのイースターの週に有給を取れたので国内観光をフルに楽しめました。
ライヒスブルク城が堂々と丘の上にそびえ立ち、ふもとの街はモーゼル川の側に軒を連ねる観光地です。
コヘムはドイツ西部、ラインラント‐ファルツ州の町。モーゼル川に沿い、モーゼルワインの産地として知られています。
後期ゴシック様式のライヒスブルク城（コッヘム城とも言われる）、旧市街の聖マルティン教会、市庁舎など、歴史的建造物が数多く残っています。
前日のローテンブルクに比べるとコヘムは小さな街の中にぎゅっと見所が凝縮されていて一日あればほとんど全ての箇所を回れるんじゃないかという印象でした。
街の中の通りはどこも細い石畳で、道の両側にはお土産屋さんをはじめ、有名なモーゼルワインのお店、ヨーロッパの可愛らしいテーブルクロスを売っているお店やレストラン、カフェなどで埋め尽くされています。

It takes 1,5 hours from home to Cochem by car and feels a bit easier to access as it's closer than Rothenburg.
We drove over mountains and used the national roads because there was a traffic jam on highway.
We found beautiful rape blossom fields just next to the road.
The view of blue sky, the yellow carpet of rape blossom, and the wind turbines was just perfect.
I even thought while looking out the car window that we could lie down on grass and have some sandwiches.
コヘムは家から車で約1時間半の場所にあり、前日のローテンブルクより少し近くて何となく気分が楽です。
高速道路が渋滞とのことだったので下道を使い山を越えまくりました。
国道を走ると菜の花畑がいっぱい!
黄色いじゅうたんと青空、そこに風力発電の風車の景色が続きます。
あーここで寝っ転がってお昼ご飯もいいなー、なんて思いながら窓の外を見ていました。
高速道路が渋滞とのことだったので下道を使い山を越えまくりました。

We drove by this small town where a pretty church stood out before we arrived in Cochem.
What I just noticed here was that the roof color of houses wasn't typical orange.
I wanted to know the reason and found out that the orange roof tiles are unglazed pottery, which is suitable for a region where it's dry and has little precipitation.
This kind of roof tile isn't suitable for a region like Japan where it rains often and has high humidity because the rain goes through it.
So we (in Japan) need to make roof tiles coated with a carbon film in the final step of firing for waterproof effect.
But you also see roof tiles made from stones which have been sliced into plates which look dark gray color, not the baked clay tiles, in the mountain ares in Europe.
This should be what it is here.
もう少しでコヘムの街、というところできれいな教会の建つ小さな街を見つけました。
ここに来て気づいたのが、家や建築物の屋根の色がオレンジ色ではないこと。
気になったので調べてみましたが、なぜヨーロッパはオレンジ色の瓦屋根が多いのかというと日本に比べて降水量が少ないのと乾燥地帯だから素焼きの瓦で用が足りるんだそうです。
日本みたいに雨が多く降るところだと素焼きの瓦では雨を通してしまうので不向きで、焼成の最後の行程で炭素膜をコーティングさせ雨に強い瓦にするのだとか。
ですが、ヨーロッパでも山地に行くと、粘土を焼いた瓦ではなく石を板状に薄切りした暗い灰色っぽい屋根「スレート瓦」の屋根が多いのだそうです。それがちょうどこちらですね。
We started to see the magnificent Imperial Castle (Reichsburg castle).
Parking our car in a parking house near the central city, we began to walk through it.
Deciding to have a big dinner in the evening, we stopped by a bakery to buy sandwiches for lunch after passing under a gate called Enderttor.
見えてきたのは立派にそびえ立つライヒスブルグ城。
中心街に近い有料駐車場を見つけてから早速散策開始です。
夕飯はレストランに行くことにしてお昼は軽くし観光しようということでEnderttor(エンダート・トーア)という門をくぐったところにあるパン屋さんでサンドイッチを買って食べました。

What I had was a half bread (Brötchen) with lettuce, salmon, cucumber, and egg-like fish sausage (it must be for vegetarians) on and a bagel that has tomato, cucumber, herb mixed cream cheese in.
It looks like a normal bagel though, the dough is the same as pretzel one (here I mean typical German one)!
You have the smell and taste of pretzel as a bagel!
So perfect one for me because I looove both pretzels and bagelssss. You should try it when you come here!
私が食べたのは半分に切った丸いパン(Brötchen)にレタス、サーモン、キュウリ、卵に見えるかまぼこ(ベジタリアン用に卵は使っていないんですね。私は肉食ですけども)のサンドに、トマト、キュウリ、ハーブ入りのクリームチーズが挟まったベーグルを食べました。
普通のベーグルに見えますがこれがプレッツェル生地!
香ばしいプレッツェルの香りと食感がそのままベーグルになってるなんて、ベーグル&プレッツェル好きに私にはたまりません。一石二鳥でしょうか。是非おすすめです。
Here is a mountain where you can look over the whole city at the summit by a chairlift and is on the opposite side of the hill where Imperial Castle stands
There is a cross at the top of the mountain (you see the photo in the end of this post) and you can see even small streets of the city from there.
We went to the platform for a ride. A round-trip costs €6,30 per person.
You might think that it's not reasonable for a round-trip but they have some hiking routes when you get off a chairlift on the top and it provides you more to see.
It's worth paying, isn't it? :D
ここでは街を一望出来る山がライヒスブルグ城の丘の反対側にあり、チェアリフトで山頂に行けます。
頂上には十字架が立っていて(最後の方に出てきます)街の中の細かい通りまで見えたりしますよ。
早速乗ってみました。往復で€6,30です。
少し高いんじゃない?と思うかもしれませんが、降りるとそこでもハイキング出来るくらいの散歩コースもあるので行ってみると十分6ユーロの価値はあります。
Castles never stop fascinating you wherever and whenever you see them.
Coming down back to the city, we started to walk in the city.
Pass under the tower of St. Martin's Church on the Bern street (Bernstrasse).
お城はいつどこで見てもその迫力に圧倒されますね。
チェアリフトで再び下り、戻ってきてから街の中を観光しました。Bernstrasse (ベルン通り)を進み聖マーティン教会の塔の下をくぐり抜けます。
You come to Marktplatz (market square) when you past wooden-framed buildings on the Bern street.
I found a store where they sell accessories with mineral products there and Jan got me cute earrings with the stones when I thought I'd love to buy something as a souvenir.
ベルン通りを出て木組みの建物を通り過ぎるとここMarktplatz (マークト広場)に来ます。
アイスカフェのショーウィンドウのパフェたちが美味しそうでした。
ここでは鉱物があしらわれた商品もたくさん販売されていました。
思い出に何か欲しいなーと思って眺めていたらかわいいピアスをじょんが買ってくれたのでラッキー!
We came out to the road by Moselle river.
All houses look so pretty in pastel colors and I had to make Jan stop from walking away to take photos. x)
I found 3 houses build in width of 1 house there. Looks so tight!
You might hear conversation from your neighbors in there.
But still they look pretty.
細い通り道からモーゼル川沿いの道路にでました。
どこの家もパステルカラーで可愛らしく、しょっちゅうじょんに止まってもらって写真を撮ってしまいました。
ここで私は1軒分の幅に3軒建っている家を見つけました。細ーい!
なんだか隣の家同士、会話も聞こえちゃいそうです。
What you can't miss here is Imperial Castle to visit. They have a shuttle bus to take you to the castle but we went there by walk.
As it's very close to the central city, you can easily go up there.
If you take a look at a photo from the chairlift (up there↑) you can see how close between the castle and the city.
I wondered if this is also a part of the ruins.
ここに来て忘れていけないのはライヒスブルク城です。ライヒスブルク城行きのバスも出ているようですが歩きで向かいました。
中心街から近く、散歩感覚でお城まで行けます。チェアリフトからの写真を見てもらえれば街からお城までの近さが確認できますよ。
これも廃墟の一部でしょうか。
There were those beautiful tiny flowers blooming by the side of a street.
I thought it'd be sad if I just walk by them and took this photo. :)
こんなきれいな花がけなげに道の端っこに咲いていました。
黙って通り過ぎたらなんだか可哀想な気がして撮りました。
Finally started to see the castle.
The closer you come to the castle, the steeper the slope gets.
I ever thought that it must've been also tough for French troops who came to attack the castle at that time. . . lol
見えてきました。
お城に近づくにつれて急勾配になるので息切れちゃいます。
当時城に攻めに来たフランス軍もここの坂はキツかったに違いない。。。とか考えちゃう。
Reached to the gate. A little bit more to finish.
It was still mid-April but the sunlight was strong enough and about 25℃. We could've worn t-shirts.
And we come to the castle.
I felt solemn atmosphere from the fence of the gate. Simply breathtaking.
門が見えました。ももも。。もう少し。
4月中旬ですが日射しは強く25℃くらいあり、半袖で十分なくらいでした。
お城に来てしまいました。重々しい雰囲気が城門の柵から感じられました。全部迫力大ですね。

The cross is too small to see though, the mountain lies opposite side of Imperial Castle.
You can see the Tower of St. Martin's Church on Bern street (Bernstrasse) where we walked earlier of popping out. It's close, isn't it?
お城からの眺めです。
写真左の、街に向かって傾斜している山の頂上がチェアリフトで上った十字架の立つ位置です。
十字架が小さくてほとんど見えませんが、ほぼライヒスブルク城の向かい側になっています。
先ほど歩いたBernstrasse (ベルン通り)の聖マーティン教会の塔がひょっこり飛び出ています。ずいぶん近いでしょう?
We came back again to the city and this is what you see from Moselle bridge.

再び街に戻ってきました。今度はモーゼル橋からの眺めです。下から上のお城を臨む感じですね。
モーゼル川と街の景色が素晴らしいです。
We got hungry from lots of walk and decided to find a restaurant for dinner.
Hey here looks like a corner of Paris.. I'd love to go there again!
たくさん歩いたのでそろそろ晩ご飯を食べることにしてレストラン探し。
ここは全部カフェですが、何だか景色がパリみたいでまた行きたくなりました。
We entered a Schnitzel restaurant by Moselle river.
Excuse my tired face with salad.
散策してモーゼル川沿いのシュニッツェルレストランに決めました。
気の抜けた顔の私とちょうど来たサラダ。笑
This is what I ordered.
Schnitzel with two slices of tomatoes and melted cheese on.
I almost never eat french fries but I didn't mind it this day. I ate them all.
こちらが私が注文したシュニッツェル。
トンカツより衣が細かく薄いのが特徴です。
揚げたシュニッツェルにトマト、チーズがとろけてのっています。
普段はフライドポテトは全く食べない私ですが、今日はいいやと思って食べちゃいました。
Jan had a Jäger (hunter) Schnitzel which has mushroom sauce.
I could feel his hand holing a knife hurrying me. lol
じょんはイェーガー(猟師風)・シュニッツェル。きのこソースがけです。
ナイフを構えるじょんの手が写真を撮る私を急かしています。笑
We're full and ending this round trip.
I found another old castle on the top of mountain again after starting off.

さぁー、お腹もいっぱいになったところで今日の旅も終わりです。
走り出して少ししてから遠くの山にまたお城を見つけました。何のお城だろう?
